The Annual Spring Dinner and Silent Auction will be held on Friday, April 23rd at Jakum’s Hall, 2601 N. 15th St, Sheboygan.  Our Guest Speaker will be Attorney General Candidate Scott Hassett.  In addition we are pleased to announce that all four Lt. Governor Candidates will be in attendance for the social hour and brief remarks.

Our Guest Speaker, Democratic Candidate for Attorney General Scott Hassett, is a trial attorney whose independence and courage to do what’s right has earned him the respect of the legal community, law enforcement, conservationists and citizens around Wisconsin.

As a trial attorney, Scott handled civil and criminal litigation in state and federal courts for 22 years. A partner and shareholder at Lawton and Cates, his practice included extensive work representing law enforcement personnel at every level of government. He was involved in many of the environmental cases the firm handled including those involving groundwater pollution and complex chemical or asbestos exposure. In addition to civil rights cases, he also represented Wisconsin’s hardworking public employees, including the Wisconsin State Employees Union, as well as various private sector and utility unions.

Chosen to lead the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources by Governor Jim Doyle in 2003, Scott’s five year tenure included significant progress in the largest sediment clean-up project in the nation in the Fox River watershed; the elimination of permit backlogs; the acquisition of nearly 200,000 acres of public lands or easements; a streamlining of the air and water permit process and management of the challenging problem of CWD.

With 2700 employees and a budget of $500 million the DNR‘s enforcement division alone represents one of the largest law enforcement agencies in the State, comparable in size to the Department of Justice.

Born in Dunn County Wisconsin where he lived until he was 10, Scott is an active outdoorsman. He is a member of Ducks Unlimited, Wisconsin Bowhunters, the Oak Ridge Rifle Club and Muskies, Inc. International. Scott has taught Hunter Education and Firearm safety courses and is a former Board member of the National Resources Foundation of Wisconsin, serving two terms as chairman. Before going to Law School he was the managing editor of the Jefferson Banner, winning state newspaper awards for investigative reporting.

His father, Paul Hassett, was Chief of Staff to Governor Warren Knowles in an era when ideas and getting things done mattered more than scoring political points. Scott is married to Chris Hassett, an occupational therapist who works with people with developmental disabilities. The Hassetts have a son Tyler, 22, and a daughter Whitney 24. Chris and Scott live near Lake Mills, in rural Jefferson County.
